Nila is a graduate of Glenville State College in West Virginia with a BA in English and art. She was also graduated from Memphis State University, Memphis, Tennessee, with an MA in English and went on to complete graduate certification at Pembroke State University, Pembroke, North Carolina, in administration and supervision. Later in her career, she completed another undergraduate major in Interior Design at Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina. Nila is a long-time affiliate member of the American Society of Interior Designers and continues her Interior Design education updates in this organization.

Nila is also a professional artist and continues to produce work in watercolor, mixed media, pencil, and pen. Her work has been exhibited and collected throughout the Southern region. Her studio time spans work in both visual art and interior design.

In addition, Nila worked for many years as the supervisor of the arts for the local public schools and she continues to be an avid supporter of the arts in her region.
